Royal Icing and Cake Stacking Class with Jay Qualls, 12/16 from 10:00-2:00p

Sugar Drop is happy to announce that celebrity cake baker Jay Qualls will be teaching a Royal Icing and Cake Stacking class on Saturday, 12/16! This class will run 4-6 hours and students will learn all of the basics and fundamentals of working with royal icing. Jay will teach how to pipe drop strings, small detail piping as well as how to measure and divide cakes for piping.  Students will also learn his method of stacking and constructing a wedding cake and Jay's signature triple beaded border.  As time allows, he will teach any other techniques and answer questions.  If you are a seasoned baker wanting to brush up on your skills or a novice baker wanting to start at this beginning, this class will help you learn everything you need to know on how to property work with royal icing. 

 A supply list will be emailed to class participants for students to bring their own supplies. Sugar Drop will also have kits available for purchase with all supplies needed prior to the event.

Jay Qualls, Celebrity Wedding Cake Designer

Jay decorated his first cake on April 25th, 1992 for his daughter’s first birthday party and fell in love with cake decorating from that day. His passion for delicious and beautiful cakes grew into a full time successful company known as Maples Wedding Cakes and he most recently opening A Frosted Affair, A Jay Qualls Boutique Cakery in Nashville, TN and inventor of Fondant Fabric™.

After graduating in 2003 from Middle Tennessee State University with his B.S. in Organizational Communication, Jay decided to put it to good use and open a high end wedding cake boutique Jay quickly turned Maples Wedding cakes into a leader in custom designed wedding cakes. He believes cakes should be beautiful and delicious. He has studied and worked alongside of the greatest sugar artists in the industry. He continues to be one of the leaders in the cake industry with his unique since of style of cake design, teaching, product development, speaking, business development and consulting.
